Default Videos regarding health.

There are two videos on this post. One you can see right away. The other is a link on the bottom of the post.

After viewing one video, I felt the need to pass this on to everyone here.

While both videos are informative, I've heard it over and over and over again, from doctors, nutritionists, and everyone in between. Then they all recommend marine life as the "miracle food." High in omega-3's, yadda yadda yadda. All with the typical fearmongering tone.

I don't mean to sound cynical or sarcastic, but I'm just sick of hearing stuff like this.

In my opinion, the key to being healthy is balance, neither too much nor too little of anything. I take stuff like this with a grain of salt. While I agree that too much of anything can't be good for you, I don't think you should be afraid of it to the point where you cull it out of your life. If that were the case, one would end up not eating anything, because no food is perfect. I swear...there is always a study that finds something negative about a specific food.

Just my . Again, I apologize if I came off harsh there. I just needed to get it off my chest.

Thanks for posting this video. I wish I could have seen all of it but it stopped transmitting after 41 minutes. It contains very informative, beneficial information.

In addition to obesity and increasing the risk of cardiac failure, sugar feeds cancer cells. The doctor probably touched on this subject too, but I wasn't able to view it.

Thank you again for caring enough to post this thread.

@Junebug: Don't mention it.

Try it again and wait until the entire video loads before playing. Then scroll the time bar to approximately where you left off and see if you can watch the rest.

@ Carl: It's okay, dude. You're free to think what you like.

I thought it was valuable to me because it explains why I had a hard time dropping 5 to 15 pounds of extra weight that made me look like a softy, when I'm actually quite athletic.

This is coming from a guy who is not terribly overweight, or obese, or has any kind of diabetic problems.

I've always been athletic to some degree or another. In fact, I probably injured myself as a result of over doing it!

Exercise wasn't enough. I didn't realize the fruit juices I drank, the sports drinks I had after a workout (during high school), and the sodas - all did damage to me as an athlete.

It totally explained why burning calories didn't make sense to me either. I couldn't explain it before. Now I have a better understanding of it.

Here's what I mean:

I started training with a friend of mine not too long ago. One of the things he had me do is burn calories via the step machine for 40 or so minutes to burn a total of 350 calories. And I got results...

Well...

We had a bit of a falling out (for some stupid reason). So I'm training myself now.

Guess what...

I did less than what he had me do. I cut my cardio down to only 15 minutes at a much higher intensity and burned less calories (150 calories, in fact)! And I got much faster results than the ridiculously long 40 minute step machine work out!

I hate those step machines. I hate elliptical machines. I hate treadmills. I hate the stupid bike machines (real bikes are okay). All those machines in the gym save the weight machines and the free weights, I hated.

Note to mention: I completely dropped fruit drinks, soft drinks, and sports drinks from my diet.

I still eat carbs. But the ones that the body can process.

Carl, you're right, moderation is key.

But...

What the video is saying is:

We're not having certain types of sugars in moderation at all!

Sucrose is regular old table sugar. We may be moderating sucrose, but there is another type of sugar that we do not moderate...

What is it?

Fructose.

Yup sugars from fruits and corn.

Is fruit and corn bad?

Hell no! I still eat fruit and corn.

But why is fructose bad?

Because it's freakin' everywhere! It's better known in it's concentrated form: high fructose corn syrup/sugar

It's in:

BBQ sauce
ketchup
mustard (yeah, I had a hard time believing it too)
soda
fruit drinks (obviously) - to be explained more later
sports drinks (this one went under the radar for me because I didn't think of it)
candy/chocolate bars

The list goes on!

This is the problem. It's not being moderated, period!

This is what my revelation is.

We are not really moderating sucrose or fructose.

So no matter how much exercise you put in, it ain't gonna matter!

Btw, artificial sugar is even worse. If you're gonna have sweets, real sugar is better.

To explain the fruit juice:

1 good sized orange only makes 1/10 of a cup, (if that at all), of orange juice. This one is straight up unadulterated arithmetic.

It's also devoid of fiber, which protects you from the fructose poisoning to a certain degree.

My Mum told me something about fructose which is another reason it's a problem.

It has been found that it by-passes the bodies detection of sugars, so your body is not aware of the amount of sugar it has consumed. The fructose levels in fruit is fine, but the high concentrations of it being put as syrup in other products (such as those Philip mentions) is meaning the body is getting FAR more sugar then it knows about...

...and they think that is key in the rise of diabeties. The body is not producing the chemical it needs to handle the sugar because it does not realise you have consumed so much.

Not having a go, but please distinguish between Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes Type 1 sat here and I can guarantee I didn't get this way because of a bad diet!

Watched the vid, and strangely enough the Doc in the Vid made the same error briefly.

T2 Diabetes is the one apparently on the rise due primarily from bad diet. It is also the type that can be controlled by diet alone and supposedly can be eradicated if we modern apes can remove the "processed" fructose from our diets (to a greater or lesser extent).

My biochemist sister shared this with me a few months ago. He lays out the case against high fructose corn syrup in great detail and very strongly. I for one am convinced.
By the way, I'm a medical doctor. Eat food as minimally processed as possible, and with as much diversity as possible.
