I grow mine outside year round and have not noticed a lot of bug problems with them. Maybe the rain does help. I have seen mealies on the new growth at times. I just cut back those infested parts and spray down the whole plant with Bayer rose spray that you can attach to the garden hose. It is a pretty hardy plant. It handles temps from 40's up to 100 with very little distress. Plus the full sun in summer. It is looking a little beat up right now from the hard summer, but still putting out buds and flowers. I love it!

A receptionist at work was given one of these in June by one of our clients (she is not interested in plants in general, & I'm really only interested in Orchid 'flowering plants'..
'We' kept it on the reception desk for about a month & when it had no more flowers and as we were planting geraniums, fuschias etc..in tubs outside we ended up planting this too... It has trebled in size & is re flowering! I knew nothing about these plants and didn't know they were a vine!!
So, I've now looked up the "overwintering" of one, and ready for the challenge of getting this to survive and flourish next year..

One learns something everyday

I also have one and we've had it for 3 years now growing in a pot with a little trellis. Overwintering is not difficult. Bring it inside for the winter and keep it in a bright spot that's somewhat cool (15°C-ish). Go very easy on the watering, they prefer to be very dry rather than wet. It might get ugly during the winter and lose lots of leaves, but once it goes back outside in May it puts out lots of beautiful new growth (they bloom on the new growth) and I cut down the long stems by about a third before new growth starts.

I wish I had a photo of it, last summer it had over a dozen blooms open at a time.

These are beautiful plants everyone, such vibrant color. They were really the hot new thing around here several years ago.

Susan really like to see yours growing outdoors, wish they were winter hardy here and they would give Clematis a little competition as the popular climber.

Here are a couple pics of my Mandevilla. As I said before, it is a little beat up right now from the heat but will look great in a few months. It still puts out a couple flowers at a time but they wilt rather quickly.

I bought one of these last week -- but not for the plant. I wanted the trellis in the pot and it had been marked down to $8. (Comparable trellises I have seen have been over $20.)





I don't foresee myself bothering to try overwintering it. Not only is it a rather huge unruly "beast", but I suspect it would prove to be a mealybug and spidermite magnet. That's something I don't need to deal with in my apt over the winter.
