Default Anybody knowledgeable about cactus cuttings?

I found a columnar cactus growing wild, it looks like a pilosocereus nigrispinus and is about 3 inches thick and 5 feet tall. I would like to reproduce it by taking cuttings of sections of the stem. Does anyone have knowledge about this subject or can reference a web site? Thank you.

I've had some success with rooting cacti. It is usually best to let the fresh cut callus over before planting. They're survival machines so it should be to difficult. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks WhiteRabbit & RoyalOrchids,

As hot as it has been, it shouldn't take to long to dry out sufficiently.

Most are very easy in my experiance Like Royal orchids sais let the cutting callous a few days first and then pot them up and see what happens ...you might also try grafting it on another type and then plant deeper to let it root above the graft union if it turns out to be one of the difficult types.

Grafting with cacti is incredibly easy google will give several sites for that too....

Hi WhiteRabbit,

I live in Cocoa Beach, Fl. It has been mid 90's here for a week or two with no rain. I got 3 stem cuttings & have them drying now, I'll take a photo.
