This is a night blooming cactus. It began to open two nights ago, lasted until dusk the next day and was closed never to open again by the morning. I looks very similar to the night blooming "Queen of the Night", Epiphyllum oxypetalum and other night blooming members of the Cereus genus of cacti. It is extremely fragrant with a sweet aroma of nectar and attracts a number of small members of the Hymenoptera Order hopefully for pollination! The thing I don't know and maybe someone here will know is if this species is self-pollinating. They usually have a display of a ring of these trumpet flowers... maybe next time.
