Default Succulent question and I.D.

I received this Noid Succulent 2 years ago when it was just a small 3" cutting. It's grown very well and began blooming last fall. I took a big whiff of the blooms and that was a mistake because they sorta smell like rotten chicken. It blooms all the time now, but always from the crowded center and never along the length of the stems. Is this normal behaviour, and does anyone have an I.D. for this "stinker"?

It looks and sounds like it belongs to genus Stapelia.

Thanks. I'll look up Stapelia and see if I can narrow it down.
