I've seen a hummingbird around the petunias that are planted in 6 pots on my deck. Had one same time last year too. Difficult to photograph as it doesn't hang around long at all.

Default Hummingbirds

I love to watch the Hummingbirds attack the Easter Cactus that hangs in my front window. Lately the Hummers have been going after the Sun Flowers. It's fun to watch them poke and jab at the flowers.. JamesL..

OMG, that's amazing. So many hummers. How much sugar do you go through? Must be wonderful to be able to witness that everyday.

A favorite time of the year when they arrive. Keeping ants away are my BIG challenge. Thanks for the video!

I go though a gallon a day. Those are only part of my feeders. I was standing next to the feeders while filming, they are accustomed to me.

The ant moats don't work to keep the ants out. I will tell you how to keep ants out. I rinse the feeder carefully after I fill it so there is no dripping sugar water on it. Then I am careful when I take a feeder down so no sugar drips on to the ground. That is how the ants can find it. But once they happen to find a feeder I put a drop of Terro liquid ant bait in the ant moat and then I take the feeder part down but leave the moat where the ants have been coming up. They have made an "ant trail" to the feeder so all the ants keep coming to the feeder but since the sugar bottle is down they eat the bait in the moat. They take that back to their home and it kills them all. Then after the bait is eaten and the ants are gone I can use that hook again. Works really well. I only had to do it once this year so far.

Wow, now that's a bunch of hummers. I have the same problem with ants. But I usually only see one humming bird a year down here. I can't seem to get them to use my feeder so I quite putting it up. They mostly stay up in the Mountains around here.

But it sure sounds like you have them there ants figured out.

This site has cool close up pictures of ruby-throated hummingbirds and how to tell differences in the sexes and age. Then they have another page on how to know if the hummie has been banded by a color mark on their chest. I have never seen color marked or banded birds at my feeder.

Hummingbird: external appearance, ageing, sexing

Hummingbird: color-marking hummingbirds
