Default What looks like a snake, but is not a snake?

This guy looks like a snake and acts like a snake but he's actually an Eastern Glass Lizard. He's classified as a lizard because he has eyelids, and ear vents. If he should loose his tail to a predator he will eventually generate a new one. Some glass lizards are reported to have small leg like growths near they're "private parts" vent. I don't know if he did...I didn't go there.

They're pretty elusive and spend most of their time beneath the ground munching on insects. They do get startled...I've seen them jump out of the earth in the path of my mower. Also encountered one when I was changing my sprinkler head a couple of years ago. I unscrewed the sprinkler attachment and there he was, lying near the water pipe, looking up at me.
