Default Shy Guy

I just happened to be looking out my window at the right moment and noticed this shy guy slithering down a 7' palm in my pocket garden. I approached him slowly with the camera, but he was not fond to be the subject of a photo shoot.

This black snake has the potential to startle humans, but he's non-poisonous and a beneficial member of the ecosystem. Every now and then I'll see one weaving in and out of my larger potted orchid specimens...even the hanging ones as snakes are agile climbers.

You may not initially see him in the second pic, but if you look closely you'll see him peeking at me from behind the top of the log.

Nice find, Southern Black Racer. Excellent pest control. My buddy and I seen a 7 or 8 footer sunbathing on a Palmetto frond a few weeks ago. He was trying to warm up.

The second pic. of the snake peering over the log would be a good one for the Dave's Garden site. There is a section entitled "You Supply the Caption" where an interesting pic of flora and/or fauna is published and they ask the readers to imagine a caption (usually funny).

Thaat would be enough to keep in inside for a week.
Sorry, can't stand snakes, actually get sick to my stomach at just seeing one.
