Cyanobacteria isn't going to kill Horus (he's beautiful btw, I always wanted a good half moon).
I keep tetras! Tetras are generally not as easy to keep as Bettas.
I keep a small school of Rummy Nose Tetras (
Hemigrammus bleheri). I've had them for 4 yrs (maybe more, not sure, lost track).
I've had Cardinal Tetras for nearly as long. I now only have one. I think many of them just died of old age.
I had a group of Ember Tetras (
Hyphessobrycon amandae). Again, I think most died of old age, as I now only have one.
I've kept saltwater fish and live corals. I've propagated live reef building corals before.
Cyanobacteria is unsightly in a tank, but for the most part it will not harm fish (it might overgrow corals if you allow them to). They're much easier to control in a freshwater tank than a saltwater one.
Try going to a water store and changing with that water for a while and see how things go.
