ah - I see
well in the pic, the lower blooms - I think that's as open as they will get. I might have a small syringe, not sure it's small enough tho ...

hehe
well I had another go at it - went out armed with a small syringe and a small medicine dropper. Barely touch the bloom and it oozes a good deal of clear liquid. So - maybe mines just boring in the nectar color department ... ?

Awesome bloom. Maybe I should quit picking at mine and let it grow and see if it ever blooms like that. Love it.

hehe - this one was a nice sized pup I potted maybe 5-6 years ago - it got big pretty fast it seems. What I have done is I potted up a bunch of pups, so now I have a lot of aloe plants to attack lol, so I don't have to keeping hacking off "leaves" from the same plant, and been leaving this biggest one alone pretty much.

Is there a good (read: non-messy) way to get the gel out? I always end up with it all over except where I want it (usually in the palm of my hand)

I don't know of any non messy way. But I kinda like the mess. I usually cut a piece I want then sorta fillet it in half if I'm gonna use it on burns. if it's to eat or put in blender then I have to "skin it".

hehe - yeah - I always buy the bottled aloe gel stuff which is stupid probably - I do sometimes use the direct from the plant gel for burns, but figure I have plenty of plants and should probably just use that anyway - doesn't cost me anything and not all diluted like the store bought stuff

How neat! The blooms look exactly like what I see in xeroscaping here.

With my little plant (which I think is a smaller hybrid of some sort), I just cut a leaf and squeeze the gel out.

Been using it (minimally) on/in my cat's ears that just went through a bout of ear mites. Funny how she calms down when she realizes that it actually feels good.
