I doubt prayers could really do anything regarding an earthquake. everyone could pray in advance for every country and such events would still happen.

The magnitude is exponentially many times higher that the quake that hit PaP / Haiti, yet the fact that Chile has a better infrastructure has limited the loss of life to very few casualties compared to Haiti.
When I was in Haiti in sept 2008 shortly after the 4 hurricanes many people there pray a lot and were hoping for a miracle. about a year later they get a terrible quake. fighting poverty, corruption, explotation is a lot more efficient than prayers.

I raised money for a pregnant single woman so she could get a C section in a hospital rather than in someone's backyard or unsafe clinic.

my 2 cents

We're gonna have to agree to disagree here...prayers may not be something that everybody falls back on but it helps others greatly. I choose to pray.

I hope that all of you are all ok and that the damage and suffering is limited. Another tragedy so soon after Haiti. God love them.

Well at least here waves aren't predicted to be exceptionally high - but I think the warning was due to 'better safe than sorry' - I don't know how bad Hawaii may get hit.

My heart goes out to the people of Chile

FYI Hawaii got away fairly unscathed with only minor wave run ups. Phew!! Gotta love the tsunami parties though!
