What is your favourite moment in orchid growing?

Have you ever thought of what makes you so happey about orchid growing?


My favourite moment is when you just see that flower spike poking up through the plant! Thats when you know you have done a good job1

I would agree with that - also when the buds start to open

For me it's when I first realize I have just found a new Ghost orchid and then notice the flower. Nothing like it. Its like finding treasure

I agree- it's when you first recognize a spike, especially in plant you have but you've not yet seen it's flower.

Same here, the best is finding a spike nubbin! What's also nice is finding a new growth on a plant that hasn't done much for a while. Or when I see a new root/growth on a plant I'm attempted to save in water culture.

i'm thinking my favorite part of orchid growing is orchid ORDERING! no wait--maybe it's waiting for the order...uhh..actually, i like seeing the box and opening it!!! yeee!!! can't wait!!!

(i want to say it's placing the jewels in the greenhouse, but that's not fun for me yet because i'm not confident i have everything in the right place...)

My best momet so far is new leads ....new roots ....new spikes ...LOL new anything But I really like new leads and since my plants are really still a couple of years from bloom size they make me really happy.

My best moments are new anything-leaves,buds,roots,basal growth. Of course, first blooms are exciting! Or blooms period!
Sometimes it hits me unawares, I'll be watering or gazing at my plants and I'll think "WOW, looking good"!!
A great moment was taking my 8 yr old daughter to last Sundays greenhouse tour and OS meeting and she said 'this is heaven' when she walked in the greenhouse door!!
