What is your favourite moment in orchid growing?

New spikes are the best, but I get excited every time I see new growth - new leaves, new roots, new shoot poking up through the bark or from an old bulb... it's all good! And then the flowers...

LOL, me too! I just love the process of chosing which orchids to order (always tough, but so nice to scroll through pages and pages of orchids you couuld buy), and then the best part is opening the box!

I also love seeing a bunch of new roots popping up at the bottom of the plant! It is just so exciting!

Recently, my favorite moment was discovering my Dend. Aussie Chip had something like 8 spikes. This is a small plant about 7" or 8" tall and just about every lead has a spike, one lead has two spikes. So I am with the contingent that votes for finding new growth or spikes. But then, the anticipation of opening the box of new plants is always thrilling. And hunting down and finally finding that elusive plant is very satisfying. Ah, let's admit it, it is all a favorite moment.

- Seeing my plants grow and change
- Enjoying the flowers (and, if applicable, their fragrances)
- Admiring the sheer diversity within the family
- Meeting other growers
- Learning more about the biology of orchids
- Finding my favorites after long searches


Of course, the list goes on, but those are a few of the things that come to my mind immediately.

Reblooming a genus which I've not got to bloom before is a big buzz. I've only managed Phals and Dend Phal types so far.

But just seeing any new growth of any sort is wonderful, cause I know something must be going right
