One in eight North American women have or will have breast cancer. In some regions of the world, the lifetime incidence rate is higher. Presently, about one percent of breast cancer cases diagnosed are of male breast cancer. The incidence rates have been increasing over time. As example, at the time of my early childhood, when my grandmother succumbed to breast cancer, the lifetime incidence rate for North American women was one in twenty women.

Lymphedema is a lifetime risk, and it is a very common consequence of cancer treatment. Any person at risk should wear some type of conspicuous alert device -- at least for all their medical appointments and procedures.
