This one's sure a lot nicer than the one I had at my house, It was a diamond back rattlesnake and it almost bit me.

Not to be nit-picky about taxonomy (but I'm a doctoral student who works in herpetological systematics, so I couldn't resist), but the accepted scientific name for New World rat snakes is now Pantherophis, Elaphe is reserved for Old World rat snakes! (Kind of like Paphiopedilum vs. Cypripedium) So the snake would properly be Pantherophis guttatus.
