LOL, call me crazy, but I like bugs. I'm doing my Master thesis work in the entomology department studying plant-insect interactions. Even have to wire up aphids to machines to watch their brain waves when they feed.

Leaf-footed Bugs (Hemiptera) I do not klnow this species inparticular, but I can tell you they are a terrible plague in Passion-Fruit plantations... They can feed on orchids too!
check this link http://fieldandswamp.com/true_bugs.htm scroll down to them...

That's cool Camille. I think this one is one of the Florida Leaf Bug variations. I find the smells they exude when disturbed to rival that of skunks.

Good gosh!
I was hoping somebody would say it's just a regular old Florida cricket and nothing to be concerned about!
Sorry to Camille and all the bug lovers out there...I don't do bugs!!! If I get the chance, it's bye-bye bugs
My hubby was going to catch one to bring to the local bug depot but if it's stinks like skunk when disturbed, maybe we'll re-think that idea
By the way, I went out to take another but they're nowhere in sight. I'll get a pic next time

The only good bugs (in my opinion), are bugs, (like ladybugs) that eat the bugs that eat our orchids.

There is another bug that looks much like this one called the Wheel Bug. It is a predator and should never be killed. I often see the young hatch out and completely cover a plant. They are black with red abdomens.
