It's scary but I still remember every moment of that day and the weeks that followed. From where I was in Staten Island, we could see all the smoke...and then they closed down the island because there were other warnings in the area. We were locked on the island with no way to leave and had jets flying directly over us! Scary stuff! Many members of my family spent time there afterwards for the cleanup. My husband spent the first week there driving the sanitaion trucks which were loaded with who knows what.
My sister-in-law was missing for the first 6 or 7 hours and we were all freaking out but luckily she was finally able to contact us and tell us that she had been standing across the street, waiting for the light to change so she could go into the building when it happened! We did lose a few friends that day
The devestation didn't end on that day...many of the people who were part of the cleanup are not gravely ill. a friend's husband is nowterminally ill and they trace it back to that horrific day.
I still can't watch any of the film coverage, it makes me physically ill.
