Default Need help w/ baby bunny

Hi All,
Me and my dog found a baby bunny in the driveway. It's really tiny, the size of a gerbil. It didn't try to run when first the dog then myself approached it. I pushed it into a box and brought it in the garage as we were getting hit by another thunder storm.
Can anyone here tell me how to take care of it. I want to let it go, once I'm sure it can fend for itself. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Beverly

Give it grass, horse hay and rabbit pellets, water in a small dish and a little box to hide in. Thats what we gave our little ones when they were able to easily fit in the palm of my hand. I guess you should keep it outside so that it doesnt get too used to people and want to hang around. They can be weaned from milk very young, so hopefully it will survive.

I would contact a vet or an animal rehab place in the area to get some advice , they would at least be able to tell you whether the bunny is actually big enough to fend for himself or still is on milk, and if so, what sort of feeding it would need...successfully taking care of a wild baby animal is not usually too easy, but it can be done. Additionally, with baby animals, it seems that though to us they may seem too young or little to be on their own, they are already weaned and taking care of themselves, so that's why it would be good to get an opinion from someone who could take a look at the bunny or at least deals with this stuff on a day to day basis and can tell you the best thing to do.

Good luck!

Sara

After speaking to vet and some online research I learned it would be best for the rabbit to be outside. They're supposed to be able to fend for themselves when their really small so I left it under a bush for shelter. It was hard to let it go.

I agree with Gin. I would try to find some kind of wild animal rescue center.

You did the right thing . I forgot about the baby rabbits born in a hole in the front yard lawn ,mom had them covered with the hair she pulled. I mowed around them for quite awhile then they were gone while still quite small .. Gin
