Default Bird of Paradise First Bloom

As you can see, this baby is not very big yet. She was planted late last summer and has one bloom opened and another one developing on the taller neighboring growth. I'm impressed because Bird of Paradise have the reputation for holding out on blooms for the first few seasons after being planted. The bloom spike is only about a foot tall and came from the shorter pup on the left.

Thanks everybody.

I didn't fertilize her when I planted her last year because she had time released pellets in her potting medium...wasn't sure how long those had been in there and didn't want to burn her.

Just recently I sprinkled and worked in a little Nutricote around her. I've had that bottle of stuff for a few years and I'm hoping it's still good.
