As you can see, this baby is not very big yet. She was planted late last summer and has one bloom opened and another one developing on the taller neighboring growth. I'm impressed because Bird of Paradise have the reputation for holding out on blooms for the first few seasons after being planted. The bloom spike is only about a foot tall and came from the shorter pup on the left.
I'll clear the growth around my one so i can take a photo of it...... I was given some tubers? and planted them.....six months later and two sets of flowers later, it's huge
I didn't fertilize her when I planted her last year because she had time released pellets in her potting medium...wasn't sure how long those had been in there and didn't want to burn her.
Just recently I sprinkled and worked in a little Nutricote around her. I've had that bottle of stuff for a few years and I'm hoping it's still good.
Nice job! You and I can party together, mine just bloomed for the first time too I took pictures today of everything that is blooming in my yard, I'm just too lazy to upload the pics right now!
