Default Hoya!

So I got a cutting of this guy from someone who had it on a trellis over up on the North Shore about 2.5 years ago and now its a freaking super vine! I threw it in very bright sun and now it wont stop blooming!! The scent from this guy is sooooo strong and awesome that it inspired me to lick to the nectar that comes from the flowers. Holy cow is the nectar sweet and delicious!! I was amazed!! Anyway, is there a Hoya expert out there that can tell me what species I have? Im kind curious. Thanks!

That's gorgeous!

Sorry, all I can tell you is that it's not carnosa or one of it's varieties. That's what I grow, and I do mean grow. Seems like all I can do with hoyas is make them grow super fast and happy, but not bloom. Funny, all my other houseplants suffered under my dad's care while I've been gone at college, but the Hoya finally produced blooms again! When he took care of it before I took over, it bloomed all the time, but never really grew. So I get it to grow and Dad makes it bloom! What teamwork!

I'd love to get more, I even have this amazing article with all kinds of species that I'd like to get, but they aren't the most available plants in the Pacific Northwest.

Mine wouldnt bloom until I tossed in the sun. Maybe thats what yours needs!? I dunno!

As for the variety of Hoya, I think mine might be H. australis. Maybe?

Mine blooms when it's pot bound. It bloomed and bloomed and bloomed for years but never grew bigger.

I moved house in 2004 and it's been in the same spot since. For the first two years it carried on blooming all the time, then I repotted it into a bigger pot and since then it's grown and grown and grown but not flowered again.

I love the sweet smell when it flowers, it also seems to drip a sticky sap when it's flowering. I'm hoping eventually it will grow enough to become pot bound again and will then start flowering.

Actually, before a couple months ago I moved mine to a south-facing window. A few weeks after that is when it formed new flower spurs and buds. But I want to give my dad credit for it anyways!
