Bev -
I went in there .. asked someone if they liked working there .. they said "What's not to love .. it's beautiful here!" .. so I asked who can I talk to about working here and he said to see April .. I found April and said, I'd like to work here, please and she told me where to fill out an application .. and the rest ...
I did it on a whim!
If I can do it, you surely can

I love nurseries. Thats probably why my house is starting to look like one. I'm fortunate that my husband and children like the plants too. I'm holding my twins back from starting kindergarden for a year, so I have over 2 years before their in school full time.
There is a nice nursery that I really like, I hope to apply there one day.
But how are you going to keep yourself from spending your paycheck there?

Check out and see if you can volunteer or work a day or two a week even for 4 hours .. it's worth just getting your foot in the door before working full time in the future

Dorothy, did you let them know that you are famously popular with a certain class of people who buy inedible plants rather than lunch.

Good luck!

Dorothy you just make me laugh. Just one of those happy laughs that needs no reason.

I will certainly let you know if I ever go to the east coast. Maybe when I get an awesome job traveling around finding the latest greatest plants or giving seminars or researching or something. I don't think I've got the doe for a road trip right now. I'm waiting until I can write it off as work-related expenses!

Beverly: exactly what Dorothy said! Just get your foot in the door! Around Mother's Day nurseries are desparate for any help the can get, even if you can only help a day or two a week.

Dorothy & Evan,
I would love to volunteer at a garden center, but I'm already volunteering at my children's school. They keep me busy and spring is coming. I have so much garden work coming up that I almost dread spring, but I don't . I made my garden beds, so I must keep them up. I promised my kids a veggie garden, but they have to weed it.
I used to spend all of my free time volunteering on an ambulance as an EMT and firefighting. I over did it volunteering for over 10 years. For the time being, I'm only volunteering at my kids schools.
When I apply for a job at a garden center in the future and they ask what experience I have, I want to be able to tell them to come to my house and check out my gardens. I'll post pictures for you this spring and summer.
Beverly
