Oh, I'm sure they'd just give you a friendly nibble, Camille.

Why Steve! Whatever could you mean? Not wanting to snorkle in a big lake of ice water?! Sounds great to me! Nothing beats a cold alpine lake after a hot day on the trail, although if it still has ice on top that may be pushing it.

Unfortunately, to preserve the purity of the water, swimming is not allowed in Crater Lake.

Ahhh! Research grants! Music to my ears, once I get to the point where I'm actually doing research. On to grad school! Charge!!!

Thanks for the ID. and the picture of the yellow one. My daughters also took pictures of the rare native red hibiscus but I haven't seen the picture yet. Do you know the name of that one?

The photo of your white one turned out exceptionally well. Did you notice that the petals on yours are fuller? Where did you take it? Mine are from a botanical garden on the Big Island. I got the impression that the species from the different islands are slightly different. I also heard that there was some hybridizing going on with the fragrant white one. If you ever come across a fragrant white one please let me know.

I also found your pictures on this site. It looked like you too had good luck with the weather.

Hi Camille

You'll have the advantage of all those memories to guide your next trip. I felt like I was going home. I was about to take a job there years ago when my mother got sick and could not go.

We did not meet any sharks. That must have been a real test of your cool.

Swamper and Mike

If you have the time I encourage you to look at the deals offered by the discount brokers. I have never seen such low prices for complete packages for Hawaii. I heard reports that some resorts are at 40-60% occupancy depending the week.

I really only had one to compare it too. I went to Lyons Botanical Garden on Oahu. But would love to see the vegetation on the other Islands.

Now I know I'm loosing it. I don't remember posting anything about Hawaii here, but now that I think about it, I must have. How could I not share my experience with my Orchid Board friends.

Oregon citizens are dirty Steve! I am a clean Washingtonian.

Pardon Steve and my little side conversation, Sun.

I think you are right and this is probably Hibiscus clayi
We photographed at the Foster Botanical Garden in Honolulu.
You also got me to do some research. There seems to be quite a few varieties of the endemic species:

I actually researched lots of the names using that same website. I couldn't find it and now thanks to you, got in my bookmarks. Thanks!
