Greg I just happened to bump into this thread, but you and I have been talking about your exercise and weightloss process for quite awhile now!
Dont get discouraged and work on maintaining well enjoyment while you work out so you WANT to go there, and such.
I just finished watching the biggest loser- i dont like reality tv shows BUT I LOVE THIS! SO motivating to see what they do to take challenge and overcome it and become successful, I've been off the bandwagon for years, i get into a rhythm then something will go astray and I stop and comfort myself with food-
but I think I got the kick of motivation Ive been needing ! Your not going to live forever, enjoy what you've been given!

Well, my weight loss has finally returned
I had about a week where I guess I was not getting enough to eat and it caused a weight gain of almost two pounds. Well, I have lost that and another pound, too. Somehow, it seems kind of bizarre to eat to lose weight, but I guess it happens! Weight this morning was 185.4#. I have a little more than ten pounds to go!!

Good on you, Gregg!
You mentioned that you'd thought of becoming a personal trainer. Thats what my sister did, too. She lost about 50 pounds through sensible diet (like the one Musclegirl described)and exercise, then went on to become a personal trainer. She loves the job, and is much more sympathetic to her clients than most of the PT's out there as she knows what its like to be in that situation. And now she's got a great client base and steady work with her own business.
Best of luck, and I hope you reach your goal soon!

Thank You
I have actually gotten to the point that I have to eat quite a bit to maintain my weight because my metabolism has changed so much. If I don't eat enough, my body goes into starvation mode and I gain weight. I am glad that I caught it when I did. Lord knows I don't need any more problems. I had a kidney transplant in November, 2007. But losing this weight was beneficial. My blood sugar has taken a dive compared to what it was before I managed to lose this weight. I just have to get things back together. I go to see my kidney doctors and my nutritionist on the third of April. I will see what they have to say then. I have all ready formulated many questions for them.

This Friday
I get a piece of equipment called a Body Bugg. You can input your caloric intake for the day into it--for those things that are not in the system when you start, you use the food label on the box or container and put it into the system yourself. It also has a built in pedometer, and it has something in it that calculates the calories burned. It also has a graph that will show you when during the day your peak activity levels were. As I have been battling this weight thing for about a year, having plateaued and then started losing and plateaued, etc, I thought it would be a good idea to get a little bit better handle on the process, so that I would have less plateaus and have a consistent loss. I will also get on a scale that measures body fat along with weight, which should be enlightening, as I have never used one before. I will probably go through a short health assessment before I set the equipment up.

Well, I have it now
I got my bodybugg on Friday. I really think that it will help in making the best nutrition decisions. The one thing that I will say that is not as it should be is that it does not distinguish good fats from bad ones. I could eat steak or avacadoes and both would still measure just fat, instead for breaking it down into monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fats. I guess I will have to keep track on my own. It has confirmed one thing--that I should eat more than I was previously doing. Talk about upsetting!!

Well, here I am months later
I have been through quite a bit since I last posted to this thread. A broken toe, not eating enough, which is what I was trying to prevent before and the latest thing--a broken blood vessel in my hand. All-in-all though, I am doing better than I was before. I am eating enough, I am lifting more than I ever have and smarter than I ever have, too. (Damn good thing. LOL!!)
