Ron, I am so sorry to hear that. Does your son have anybody to spend some time with? This darn snow is really tiring.

BTW, Jamie, the dog in the picture tried to drink water out of the pond and accidentally fell into it. It scared crap out of me.

Ross,
We have relatives in the Grand Rapids area and they too are really getting dumped on. But, then, we've had the longest spell of bad weather anyone here can remember, so what do you and they have to complain about?

I was gone Saturday night, I rode with my son from Grand Rapids. When I left his home early evening, it was just starting to snow. About 15 min later it was a whiteout. I couldn't see the road so I followed the tail lights of the car ahead of me, I was tailgating. It all went OK......until I discovered I had followed him onto a freeway. It was still a whiteout so I continued to follow him until I could see the lights of a nearby city. I turned off there thinking I could at least find McDonalds to wait it out. When the snow let up a bit so I could see the road again, (I went off the road a couple of times) I found my way home. I sure was thrilled to drive into my garage.

My cell phone was not working, but even if it did, who would I call? I sure didn't want my son to get out in that weather to try to come get me.

I got home late Saturday night and was snowed in until the plow came through early morning today, Tuesday. I am very happy just to be home and enjoy my orchids. After Saturday night I may just stay put until April.

Michigan is called "The Winter Wonderland" ????????

We aren't quite up to the 6 feet accumulated snow here in Grand Rapids that Ross has up in Cadillac. More sunny days here. We have had 4% of the possible sunshine November & December so we did get a few breaks in the snow. Temps in the teens & 20s combined with the 30-40 mph sustained winds have made it a bit nippy out there.

Heatwave on tap for this weekend up into the low 40s so our recurring snow will turn to rain. Ground is well frozen so runoff is expected to cause flooding in some areas. I love living in Michigan.

On the bright side, our weather forcasters announced yesterday that unless we have a headon collission with the sun, they are forecasting a 100% probability of a white Christmas!

Well, when I read what others are going through weather-wise, I know I shouldn't complain but I'd like to have a little moan anyway! Here we are living in the "banana belt of Canada" and according to the newspapers we are the "snowiest city in Canada" and will have our first white Christmas since 1971! I've now shovelled my car out four times and when able to get out the traffic is so snarled up that it's really much better to stay home! Oh well. A very Merry Christmas to everyone on the OB and best wishes for a great 2009!

That's hard to imagine. I know Hamilton and southern Ontario can be quite a mess with snow and they've gotten our cast-offs I don't doubt your newspapers, it's just hard to imagine.

Folks, this is Global Warming at it's glaring best! No snow and ice in the Arctic, but we are getting hammered. That's why we need to curb greenhouse gases! You National Leaders listening? Only lasting and immediate legislation can make a change. (Now you know what side of the fence I'm on!)

We got hit again today with another foot of snow. I've not seen anything like it - we occasionally get a blizzard, but never have we had such along stretch of bad weather. We have a friend who's in the hospital and dying and can't even get there to see him.
