No I have never tried planting the seed as the bulbils have grown so successfully. I think planting them in spent coconut husk chips and in pots , which get the same treatment as my orchids,may be the answer

Well I checked my lilies and I don't have any of the bulbs on them

Becca the bulbs seem to only start forming once the flowers die You must also pollenate the flower

Well the flowers died a while back ago, they seem to die around mid to late summer. I did not pollinate them, never really thought about it since we have so many bee's in the garden pollinating everything. I'll give it a try next year!

Well there is always next year like you say, So you enjoy your Winter there and we are looking forward to some warmth ,it has been a long and cold winter here thank heavens it is over

Des, pollination has nothing to do with the bulbils along the stem. Pollination will produce the seed pods but the bulbils are an asexual means of reproduction. They are just like keikis: clones of the mothe plant.

Some liliums just don't produce these bulbils, it's genetic. Only 1 one my three varieties would do this

Camille,Thanks for that information I did not know that . I was told by the person who originally gave me the plant that It had to be pollenated . Do you Know which ones produce bulbils also I would like to put a name to this plant, thanks again
