Here's a local bulb (non-orchid). Not sure if it's native or naturalized, but it's an heirloom bulb here. You find huge clumps at old homesites long after the house is gone. It pushes up these flowers in early fall, out of nowhere. After the flowers drop the foliage comes up and stays until the first freeze. Then no sign of them until the next fall. Neat.
Nice plant, I wonder if they would grow and last longer down here. I would like to try them in the back of my flower bed. Let me know if you find out the name.

I think its purdy too.. I looked to see if Park Seed had it and they do: (copy and pasted from the page)
That may be a bit steep of a price. Check out Brent and Becky's Bulbs. I haven't looked there, but I remember them being pretty good about quantity discounts.
It's also called a Hurricane Lily because it blooms at the peak of hurricane season each October
- some basic info on them - Floridata: Lycoris radiata
"Location
Native to China and Japan; now widely naturalized in the southeastern United States."
