My hubby has a friend living here in PR that's an italian american. He was in the NYPD when this happened and he told my DH everything that happened there. He talked about all the people, body parts etc. etc. He was one of the first cops on call there and he worked like crazy. Thank goodness he wasn't inside the buildings when they fell. To make a long story short after that he he was in such shock and pain that he left NY and moved here.

Wanda, that is totally understandable...many people who witnessed the aftermath had severe reactions to it and left the city.

My husband was working for NYC Sanitation at the time and he was there in the days following loading up trucks and moving what can only be called debris but was of course, so much more than that. He said no matter what we saw on the TV and in the papers and magazines, nobody that was not there on that day or first days after it could possible imagine what it was really like. My brother is a police officer in NY and I have cousins who work in the court system, all of whom were on the site that day or the next helping in the search and they all said the same thing...with very minimal words...like they really couldn't bring themselves to talk about it.

I don't have the words either. All I can say is that i join those who mourn today. That fateful day is seared into all of our memories. I pray for strength for the friends and family of those who lost loved ones, and for all those who make our country run. Thanks for starting this thread.

Nothing like the love a puppy with puppy breath (the best) is right! That puppy pic is too cute!

I'm so sorry to read about your mother's passing Susanne. My heartfelt, belated condolences.

Sue, I'm so very sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. I know that no matter how old one is, the loss of a parent is one of the most difficult things we have to go through in this life. My deepest sympathy, belated though it is.
