We've been getting some rain from very outer bands off and on all day here on the Gulf Coast s. of Tampa.
My sympathies and thoughts w/those from the panhandle through New Orleans--where it appears to be headed.

That's the same stuff we're getting here in Spring Hill.
Can you imagine how strong this storm is...for us to be feeling some of it and it's nowhere near us!

David, the weather people were saying earlier that your area could be subject to tornadoes overnight. They mentioned Naples up to the Sarasota area.
Please check in tomorrow and let us know you're okay

May God keep you safe wherever you live and moreso those in the areas affected by Gustav and those in the path of Gustav.
My brother and my husband's sister lives in the Lauderdale and Coral Springs so I understand and know what is happening.
Of course in the Caribbean we haveour fair share.
Take care and be careful ...

I have been hearing a lot about this hurricane since my best friend is away at grad school in/near Tampa Bay. She was freaking out since it's her first time in the USA. I'm glad she (and others in FL) are out of harm's way, but I pray for those who are watching that monster hurricane head their way.

Hey Everyone,
We're doing ok here in Naples. There's been some squalls come through with heavy downpours and wind from the outer bands of Gustav, but nothing too bad. I think there was a tornado spotted way west of us out towards the Everglades, but nothing here in town.
Suzanne, I appreciate your concerns.

Gustav has been dumping his rain on us here in Cental Florida as well. Yesterday after an orchid expedition to Clermont we got caught in it all the way home. I set up my rain collecting devices (some mixing bowls, tupperwares, and a large bucket) and collected over 7 gallons of rainwater in a matter of minutes. No joke. I ran out of things to store the water in so I had to stop collecting after awhile. I filled a 2 and 1/2 gallon watering can, 2 one gallon water jugs, a 2 and 1/2 gallon water jug, a storage tub estimated to hold 5 + gallons and every water bottle, drinking bottle or juice container. It looks like rain again right now.
I really hope that it doen't devistate New Orleans...they are still recovering from Katrina. Mother nature she has been fierce lately.

Yup this is no Fay, this bad boy is a wreck looking for a place to happen. Hopefully the people in LA.,MS.,and AL. evacuate before it's too late. Specially the city of New Orleans, which is basically a bowl. I think it makes landfall tomorrow morning.
It's been raining hard here for the past 24hrs on and off,and tornado watches. Still beautiful conditions in comparison.
