Went to the NYBG got new plants
Nope, they are not orchids, but cool little bags of chlorophyll non the less.
Clerodendrum thomsoniae
Lithops lesliei
Anyone have any experience with any of these? Especially the first one. I was surprised to see it was a mint.

Clerodendrum thomsoniae - I believe it's called the lipstick plant .. if memory serves me right

Lithops: I lived in South Africa for a number of years; Lithops and allied plants (Mesembryanthemaceae) are common there and in Namibia, across the border. I grew tons of them on my balcony. As much sun as you can possibly manage, and VERY sparing with the water. (And completely dry in the winter, to promote spring flowering.) Being Southern Hemisphere plants, their growing season is reversed - i.e., our summer is their winter - unless they were grown from seed up here. That can easily be switched around. From my experience, they do best in coarse, free-draining soil with lots of sand. Hope that helps some!

I first found out about the Lithops in my botany text book. THought they were too cool, so when I saw one in the NYBG store, I had to get it.

Thanks Boytjie! That helps a lot because I wasn't sure how much water was too much.

Tindo, Lithops AKA living stones are awesome. They come in a variety of colours. for a while back, BEFORE I got the orchid bug I kept quite a few.
