June, I hope you're doing alright there. I heard earlier that Melbourne had 9" of rain...so far!...and Ft Pierce already had 11"!
Our county emergency notice system is still sending me email notices saying not to let our guard down because if it does bounce back into Jacksonville ( Dana, stay safe!), my area is within the projected cone. It is very windy here right now. We've barely gotten any rain at all, they say 1/2" but that wasn't over my house
If this does come back, it should be north of Captiva. If I were you, I'd contact the hotel and see what they have to say.
By the way, have you ever been to Captiva? It's gorgeous...and at the causeway into Sanibel to get there is a breathtaking view
Stay safe folks...stay alert!

Hi Junebug,
Hopefully Fay will pull away from you guys soon, and you'll be able to make it to a relaxing 4 days on Captiva...it is very beautiful and peaceful there!
The island is connected to the north end of Sanibel by a short bridge, and it is about a 60 minute drive north of Naples, where I am. I just checked the forecast there with respect to Fay, and looked at the Florida weather radar too. I don't think it will be any rainier there than usual this time of year because of Fay, but it might be a bit windy from the northwest, so long as that pain of a storm stays on its current track. Go away Fay...
I really hope that you are able to make your trip…you’ll have a great time there I’m sure.

I was on Captiva/Sanibel earlier today and they hardly received any rain from Fay so far. Not even 1/2'' on Sanibel.
Leisurely, I think the answer to your power failure possibility is to run a generator OUTside your greenhouse to keep fans running. I would think a small gen' would work.

Update from Jacksonville
So, I'm ready, right? For being in NE Florida, my house/neighborhood is pretty elevated so if my house floods, look east of the storm for the ARC!
OK, for the serious stuff - we're hearing that "they" (never have figured out who "they" are ) anyway....they say there's a chance that the storm will speed up/intensify slightly before it makes landfall around 2:00 am just south of St. Augustine (around Marineland) unfortunately, it puts the nasty side of the storm top of us... . St. Lucie County looking pretty bad - this thing's is SO STRANGE!!! If any of our members are there, stay safe!
So the plants are safe, I have a great bottle of Cask 23 uncorked and breathing....dinner is done and cleaned up and I've decided that my office is closed tomorrow. I was already taking Friday off so...I have a long week-end and as long as the power doesn't get killed we're golden!

The rain reports have been confusing. I believe some are stated as a per day measurement and some are the total amount. I was watching the 5:00 p.m. news today and the report stated that Fay has dumped just under 30" of rain on Brevard and it's expected that number will climb and set a record as the 4th largest rain producing storm on record for this area. This includes rains produced by hurricanes. That's pretty impressive for a storm of Fay's size and strength.
The Central Florida news reports have shown some amazing flood photos. The National Guard has had to rescue many stranded people from their homes.
I haven't seen any recent photos of our local beach errosion. After the 4 hurricanes of 2004 an enormous amount of money was spent to renourish our beaches. Most of it has probably washed out to sea.
Thank you for your concern. Hopefully Brevard has seen the worst of Fay. I haven't seen any rain for about 2 hours, but we are still getting gusty winds. The ground is so saturated that there is still the danger of falling trees. In addition to fish, Brevard County residents have also been warned to be on the look-out for stranded snakes and gators and warned to not drive until the waters recede.
I'm really hoping this unpredictable storm completely fizzles and doesn't threaten any more Florida residents.
Stay safe.

Thank you for the encouraging weather update. My husband and I are soooo looking forward to a few day's of R & R and can hardly wait till Friday get's here. I hoping Fay churned up some beautiful sea shells to add to our collection. We also plan to visit the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and are bringing our sand flea catcher to Venice Beach to see if we can find some fossilized bones and shark teeth.

Watching the news earlier...as I seem to be doing a lot these past few days! ...and they showed a flooded street in Melbourne with koi swimming in the water. I guess somebody's pond overflowed and the koi are now on the run!
The latest I read on Melbourne was "at least 22" of rain"
That's unimaginable!

CARPe diem?
What's really sad is the mess all this water is going to leave behind....would be great if we could get a clean up crew together and help out after this is over...
