Hello All from Naples!

Suzanne...I appreciate your concern, and I'm happy to let you and everyone else know that we are all fine here including the 2 cats and the 400+ chids!

I wasn't able to login till now because of work...the hospital asked me to stay, so I pulled a 26 hour shift...got home around 2pm today after leaving around 10:15 yesterday morning...and because I wanted to get my chids back out into the shade house and pool enclosure...I was too tired after moving the vandas back out, so the cattleyas and assorted others will have to wait till tomorrow.

We didn't lose electric in our immediate area, but lots of folks I know have. There have been reports of minor flooding, but nothing too bad. I've heard that a few areas around us got local rain amounts in excess of 8 inches. We received about 5 inches of rain in our rain gauge, and the wind wasn't too bad, the worst gusts were around 60 mph. It shredded the banana tree leaves and did other minor plant damage, but nothing else. I am so grateful that the storm wasn't worse than it was. I pray that wherever it goes now that others are as fortunate as we have been.

Time for another update from the east coast of Central Florida...Brevard County to be exact.

The last time I gave an update was about 4 hours ago. At that time, there wasn't much to talk about, however, things have intensified. We've been receiving alot of rain with intermittent gusts of 40 to 45 mph wind for the last 3 hours. There have been some tornado alerts and periodic wind gusts reaching 60 mph. Most of my transportable plants were brought in for shelter. There were a few freshly planted trees that had to remain outside. Among them, a young mango which I staked and tied for extra support last evening. So far every thing is fairing well. The neighbor's trees have dropped alot of debris.

My residence is about 5 miles inland. The storm has had a more intense impact along the coastal areas where there have been a few power outages and some beach erosion. A nearby trailer park reported 50 homes damaged by a tornado.

The storm is supposed to continue passing
through Brevard for next several hours. All the rain should make for a good nights sleep.

To all my OB neighbors in Fay's path, "Be Safe".

June, thanks for the update

Please stay safe

I just heard on the news that they're thinking it might be a hurricane 1 or 2 when it gets to Jacksonville.

I'm going to email Dana (irphrog) right now...

This storm and all it unpredictability is killin' me!

I just watched some of the recent weather updates too. It appears this storm has increased in intensity while traveling over land which is out of the norm.

We had a brief respit from the rain so I took the dogs outside and found that my back yard has 4" of standing water. My largest Banana tree was leaning dangerously to the side (probably because it's so water logged) so I quickly grabbed 3 lg. flowerpots full off wet soil and positioned them around the perimeter of the trunk base. My bananas and plantains may not survive as they don't like their roots to remain wet and unfortunately it doesn't appear things will be drying out in the near future

Thanks Susanne. I plan to. On the bright side I've suddenly become the owner of waterfront property.
