I got it,so the one in the picture is a pidgeon type of dove?
Also if it poops on you or on your car while it's parked.. it's pidgeon poop not dove poop right?

pidgeon poop = dove poop
dove poop may or may not be pidgeon poop
You might have to send it into a lab for verification.

OK, let me get this straight... (a pigeon is not a dove for shooting purposes ) If I shoot the pigeon (AKA Dove), the hawk gets the take (I'm sure I got that straight ) But if I shoot the hawk, then I have to use another round to get the pigeon (AKA Dove)? Yep! Them things, called Doves are a real pain up here in the land where snowbirds play. We have a season on them in Michigan for a reason. I vote for the hawk.

I have vote for the hawk too but not to shoot it, why shoot a hawk? There is a dove season here too , but I think they are shooting pigeons and calling them doves. I think the doves are just called that when there is a positive connotation attached...as in I had that delicious chocolate dove ice cream, or dove soap in the bathroom...you just wouldnt try pigeon ice cream...everything attached to pigeon seems negative...except for that song in the cartoon..."catch that pigeon...I forget the name of it

Thanks everyone! There was something a little different about this hawk and that's why I stopped and got the pictures. There are lots of hawks around here, usually the Red Shouldered Hawk. However this might be a Cooper's Hawk. Very similar from the front. Easiest to tell apart from the back. I think the Cooper's tail is more flat across at the very end and the Red Shouldered is more rounded (or maybe the other way around). The Red Shouldered is supposed to have checked wings. Ok, I don't know which it is.
My daughter's boyfriend built a giant Hawk enclosure at Flamingo Gardens for the Cooper's Hawk for his Eagle Scout Project. I learned a lot about them during that time. They are very fast and will chase small birds (like that dove) into very dense brush and occaisonally break their wings doing it. Sometimes they are rescued and live out their lives at refuges like Flamingo Gardens. You should see one up close! Very scary. Be glad you are not a small bird!
We have 2 kinds of doves very common here. Mourning Doves and Ring Necks like the one on the wire (which are probably properly called Eurasian Collared Doves). I think that Hawk would eat either one!
