Mysterious Orb Photo
Yesterday afternoon I was outside photographing my plants and some of the wind damage they had sustained from the previous evening's storm. These two photos were taken within seconds of each other. Notice the transparent mystery orb and a small colorful area just to the left of it. When I enlarged the colorful spot it is green and yellow with a rusty orange uneven border. Is this camera malfunction or spirits in the garden?

She hadn't demonstrated a personal interest in plants but she knew I loved them. I had dabbled with a few orchids 5 years prior to her passing. A few weeks after she passed I purchased a small collection of inexpensive bare root orchids and became more serious about their cultural requirements. This was an intentional part of my self-imposed therapy...giving me brief periods of focus to escape the grim reality of life. |

That's called "lens flare". It happens when strong light gets straight to the lens. Ever see the long lenses sports photographers use? They have lens hoods, some as long as a foot, at the face of the lens to keep stadium lights from hitting the front of the lens.

This was taken during extreme overcast conditions. I thought perhaps I caught a reflection of a delayed rain drop so today while it was raining I took some photos of raindrops...and nothing compared. |
