The main room should be fine. Temps aren't a biggie. You should know humidity by now
Just think Phalenopsis. Remember, even Phals like a bit more light than often recommended and tolerate lower humidity as well. Bathroom isn't necessary, unless he wants to. The fern has a better chance of absorbing water sprayed on the leaves than Phals do (because of the leaf structure), but isn't necessary. If conditions are just right, they can be fast growers. This would include jungle-like conditions. I suspect he will get modest growth. South exposure may be OK if he has a curtain or window screen. Screens cut almost 50% of the light intensity. If it were me, I would push the light (assuming window screen) and keep well fertilized and watered. I would also get it into a vanda basket (large) with sphagnum moss/fir bark as medium. I would also hook up some hangers that will last a while and then rely on dunking the whole thing in a large pail of RO water with 125ppm MSU fertilizer (you can help there, right?) That will get him a robust plant in a few years. These things are really a signature of all things "jungle" and, to me, they are the best conversation piece amongst the plant kingdom (except for orchids, which are already in bloom
) The staghorns don't bloom, per se.
