Default Outdoorsie stuff, from Tindo

Hi all,

Since you have all been posting outdoorsie stuff, I figured I would too. Spent 5 hours walking in Alley Pond woods yesterday and came across many cool things, of which only a few would stand still long enough for me to take their pictures.
Bird list, no pics sorry.
I saw Yellow warblers, Redstart, Wood thrush, Common flicker, downy woodpecker, mourning dove, Cardinal, blue jays, Robins, catbird, house sparrow, chipping sparrow, Oriole, tufted titmouse, and two little birdies I could not identify. Not a bad day.
So, here are some pics.
Here are some discarded robin eggs, I think

Here are some flowers I have no ID for; Can anyone help out?

I took one and opened it up to find anthers and a stigma, so it is not a fungus. Royalorchids says Indian Pipe, I agree!
These two are the same.

This is some kind of Rubus sp. (raspberry)

Another type of Rubus sp.

Rubus odoratus

Solanum dulcamara

NOID Spider

Morus sp. (Mulberry, yummmm!)

Lonicera japonica, japanese honeysuckle.

Liriodendron tulipifera (tuliptree, fallen flower)

Impatiens capensis, Jewel Weed, or Spotted touch-me-not

And some fungus

Chipmunk, he was sooo cute.

Bufo fowleri, fowler's toad.

Blue Jays

Ants or wasps, or termites in a frenzy. Mating season perhaps.

Great pictures! I miss growing honeysuckle--love the scent of it. The fungus is really cool too.

The berries after the spider pic are mulberries-- from a raiser of silkworms who has to be on the eternal look out for mulberry trees.

Hey Tindo, Nice shots! Looks like you had some fun.

In my neck of the woods, we have something that looks like the 'not a fungus' picture. Was it fragrant? Ours is called Indian Pipe as it is hollow, tubular, and has a nodding flower that looks much like the dissected picture. It's a saprophyte, using mycorrhizae associated with Pine root systems for food. So it has no chlorophyll! It is totally white and translucent. It's really fragrant, kind of like blueberries! I usually smell it first, then start looking for it. Just thought maybe this info might help you nail down the ID. Sorry I'm not much help on the other one.

Oops, you are right, at least I got the genus correct.

Looks like they're just coming up. You have got to go back and smell them in a few weeks! Trust me!

Tindo, this is Indian Pipe Monotropa uniflora for what it's worth. I don't see anything like it in your photos.

Keep in mind I do this as a profession! I know my native North American plants. Perhaps your picture was a really juvenile flower?

We'll have to wait and see Ross. The habit of this plant threw me off completely, and its not in my Field Guide book, at least not the way it looks in the picture. See the picture you posted is what I have in my herbarium all dried up. Come to think of it, maybe I should take a look at that specimen.
What is your profession anyway?
