Default My Working Vacation

My wife (Dottie) and I spent the Memorial Day weekend (plus some) helping her cousin with the greenhouses. I had posted about one of the greenhouses in a tongue-in-cheek post about getting a new greenhouse Dream Greenhouse and, at that time (last fall) the house was empty. You are about to see the results of a very heavy winter work-regimen on the part of the owner and his crew. He has three distinct greenhouses. House number one (the one the public sees) is approx 50 feet deep by 75 feet wide (or more). House number 2 (the house used to assemble custom orders) is two sections. Each is approx 25 feet wide by 50 feet long. House 3 is approx 75 feet long by 25 feet wide. These are guesses, on my part, because I didn't measure.

Firstly, this is the main house (called number one) It is really three greenhouses connected by way of gutters and posts like this
Dottie's job was to look cute and attract buyers and "clean" plants (remove old buds or blossoms, old leaves, etc.)

My job was to stay out of site of customers, so I wouldn't scare them away, and clean Geraniums and other plants, as well as "upsize" plants (repot to larger pots.) All of this gave me a lot of experience related to orchids in greenhouses - just a different batch of materials.

What I learned is that I want no part of greenhouse growing any time soon. Will I do it again (help out her cousin?) Yes! It was great fun as long as I don't have to pay the heat bill. By the way, the heat bill for three greenhouses was $1700+ per week this winter!

Kudus to you and Dot for giving them a helping hand!
So, no greenhouse for Ross at all?

That sounds like so much fun Ross! I'm with you though, $1700 dollars a week is waaaaayyy to much money!!! It looks like a great place to buy plants though.
