Default Little Visitor on Campus

Ok, so actually this happened yesterday, but I forgot to upload the pictures.

Yesterday there was a big to do because people spotted this little baby huddled close to the wall by one of the buildings. It was kind of a cold, windy day, and I guess mom had just had the baby (it's only a day or two old) and picked a really crappy place to leave it while she went to feed (Deer do this with newborns, as they have no scent to attract predators). Unfortunatly, mom didn't anticipate the busy day at university, nor the attention the baby would bring, because she left it out almost all day. Luckily he was gone again by about 5 in the afternoon

I think he's fine. There's woods on campus too, and I think mom was in there watching -all- day, but didn't feel safe enough to come get him with all the student traffic coming to see. Usually they will leave the babies in tall grass or in some little hollow where they are perfectly camouflaged. So we think it was maybe a new mom, and she'd left him there early in the morning when the grounds were still quiet.

He's so cute!! I saw tons of deer when I lived in northern VA, but I have never seen a fawn before. Poor baby, without his mommy all day. I'm sure that he was glad to see her after!!
