Hawaii
Hi all,
Went to Hawaii, Island of O'Ahu (I think I got that right). Saw a few things and thought I would share it with you.
I stayed at Waikiki, where from my hotel room balcony (lanai) I could see the mountains, and the beach as well as the other hotels.

Went to a Luao, too bad my camera is not better for night pics.
Here they are preparing the pig for the night.

And of course the REAL reason I went to Hawaii,
To see plants and birds ofcourse.
I went-a-hinking!

A giant Albizzia tree. species unknown for now till I check it out on the web. This tree grows 5 feet a year!

A nice tree fern. Have never seen this before. A fern relative that looks like a tree

A giant Banyan tree

A walking tree. So named because the tree grows new roots in the direction of most light, and the old roots die. As time progresses, the tree changes is position.

A nice waterfall on a rather treacherous hike for tourists I think

Some unkown flowers, well I have the names listed somewhere but i don't have my list with me now.

Ginger I believe

Hibiscus brackenridgei

I didn't get this one's name, but oooh it smelled soooo good!

Metrosideros polymorpha, a very cool plant

Here is a fern that is native. Its a strange fern because of the branched fronds

My camera is not so good for birds, and I found it very hard to get rare birds in the mountains to be seen.
But in any case, here are some, all alien to Hawaii, who are now living the good life there.
Sptted Dove

Zebra dove, not shy at all!

Rock Dove, Pigeon. For some reason, most pigeons on this Island were white. Again, NOT SHY!

These little guys, House Sparrow, seem to get around don't they.

Saw these Jungle Fowl, chicken hehe, on the mountain trail. They came at the call of our guide with the promise of juicy nuts to eat. One rooster, many wives, count them.

I didnt get a good pic of this one, but its a Red Vented Bulbo, a mean spirited bird by all accounts. Eats your vegies and fruit and flowers, and will poop on you if you look at it the wrong way

Here is the Common Mynah

A cute little House Finch, very prolific, but camera shy. I caught this one by surprise.

Red-Crested Cardinal or Brazilian Cardinal, again, NOT SHY!!!

And here are some just for the Tourists
