My Caladium World shipment arrived today from Lake Placid, Florida, where they were grown.

This is a USPS medium sized priority mail box. I ordered their Fancy Leaf Mixed - Mixed Sizes 1/4 bushel box, a mix of all sized bulbs and all leaf colors. They say they just pack the box full, and it will contain 65-120 bulbs. As you can see above, it usually holds a lot more.

This was $63 plus shipping of just over $12 for $75 and change. They ship at the proper time for various temperature zones, so most of the country will not get their shipments for a while. There is still time to order this year. Caladium bulbs must remain warm or they rot, and they should not be planted where temperatures are under 65 F / 18C.

I have been a satisfied customer of theirs for many years. I order a box about every other year. They were wiped out by a hurricane a few years back, but have recovered.

It can be hard to see them, but there are links at the bottoms of their pages to very detailed growing information.

I can throw a plus one here.

I found this place In personal. By accident. I was looking for an orchid nursery and got lost and found them. I walked around and was mind blown I filled a box with misc bulbs and have been enjoying them for many years since.

Do you do a mass planting of this or put them in various spots among other plants? Just curious.

Good luck with them! I hope that once they grow that you will share pictures.

I put them in various pots, and also outside in the garden. They're much sturdier plants than most people think. They don't mind our extremely hot summers. They will even grow in our sun if they are kept very moist.

I might point out they're aroids. With other tuberous aroids like Amorphophallus or Sauromatum they share the trait of forming roots and leaves only from top of the tuber. The company suggests planting them 2" deep but they can be planted deeper if the soil mix is light.
