Where? I think you need to read that again.

Given the history of the poster in question, the implication of derision was clear.

From the recently updated section of the rules and guidelines page:
"Sometimes your comments may be read as offensive when you didn't mean them to be."

Jokes and poking each other in good fun is great and can be enjoyable and add to the comradery, but when someone regularly posts inappropriate and/or controversial comments on the board and in their signature, it is not unreasonable to expect this type of reaction from other members to comments with "questionable" intentions.

Again, I don't believe the intentions were vague or unclear. Their comment was not *THE ABSOLUTE WORST* thing in the world ever said about atheists but it was rude and unwelcome.

Edit to add: The comment also violates the "no religion" part of the no politics or religion policy that was added to the forum rules due to this thread.

Actually, that phrase has been in the rules since Orchid Board started.

---------- Post added at 10:34 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 AM ----------

And as stated, the "politics and religion" sentence was added to clarify. It was already implicit, and added to be explicit to avoid those who couldn't/wouldn't "get it."

I almost added a "(this sentance was not part of the update)" to my comment but didn't want to get too pedantic. I am occasionally sweetly chastised about that habit at home.

If being pedantic is the worst thing you're chastised about at home, you're good to go. My chastisements usually have to do with much more sinister content.

My orchids have not expressed any religious or political beliefs. They just keep silent on their views. I guess that is why I don't have much to post to this thread....

Living on the coast, as I now do, I joined a fishing and boating forum. It is apparently owned by a large publishing company that makes money on it and others.

There was a particular section of it, “The Bilge”, where folks could “discuss” politics, religion, or whatever, and making such posts elsewhere would get you banned, or at least temporarily suspended.

The publishing company perceived that the commentary there was so heated that it might be discouraging to others, even if they didn’t participate, so they removed in in its entirety, while maintaining the ban throughout the remaining 47 other sections.

Don’t want that happening here, do we?

I’ve been a member here since 2007 and luckily, this is the first time such an egregious problem like this has cropped up. The resulting furor means that this is likely the last time it will happen. For which I’m great full.

And 58 posts later, I think we have enough of an example of why politics, religion, racism, etc, etc, aren't tolerated on this board.

Apologies to those who still wanted to bring a dog to the fight, but unlike orchids there's no need to patiently wait for a year to see world peace.

This thread is getting the seal and is now closed.
