I'm likely on the opposite end politically of K-Sci and I also agree I don't really want to think about politics when I come on a board to talk about orchids. I'll admit I wanted to respond to his signature a few times, but kept from doing it out of respect for the wishes of other board members. But honestly with the way tensions are growing in the US, its bound to happen again that someone has a problem with it and makes that known publicly. Which is also IMO an expected consequence of a right-wing dog whistle in a signature, where the actual intention of the person behind it is vague but the interpretation of the message can be anything from harmless to a indication of very dangerous principals.

In the future, I'll do my level best to use the report button instead of engaging. The timing of the comments to the MLK holiday and my existing irritation with the signature in question circumvented my ability to stay on topic in this instance. While it was a good learning experience for me as to what is and is not acceptable off-topic wondering within a thread here, you all have my apologies for my contributions to the derailment.

Sigh. Must any and all topics become political online? Even orchids? I'd so much rather polite argument over systematics, growing technique, growing medium, aesthetics and such things as concerns orchids.

When the actor Sidney Poitier died earlier this month I thought about posting a famous scene in which he slaps a plantation owner. Not because it was revolutionary for a black man to be portrayed on film slapping a white plantation owner (well actually slapping him back), but because of all the orchids visible on the scene. I decided not to largely because of the signature in question. Well, phoeey to that! Here is the scene. The orchids are all in excellent health!

Edit: Here is the scene on youtube. Regardless of where you stand on CRT, and other hot button issues, I think we can all agree that the orchids in this scene are great.

This thread got me curious, and I've been trying to find the Rules and Regulations of this forum. No luck, except what WW posted here, and occasionally bumps:

Unfortunately, I see nothing there that prohibits talk of politics, religion or any other hot-button, divisive topics. There must be rules against that somewhere (I hope)?

I belong to three or four other non-orchid related discussion forums besides this one. I have for a very long time, and the only reason I still belong to them is because these kinds of topics are not allowed. For those who want to argue, sling mud, call each other names, etc. over topics none of us can seem to get away from if we turn on the news at all in a day, there are other forums you can find where you can speak your heart's content to others who share your opinions (or insult those who don't).

But please leave it out of the Orchid Board! Some of us come here to get away from the ills of society and to talk about orchids. I know the moderators are working on this right now, and as WW explained, it may take a bit longer. Not too much longer, I hope.
