Maggi seasoning. Who uses it and what is the best??
So a few months back I was introduced to this seasoning. It is a vegan flavor enhancer that is heavy on umami and since I love to also cook for my kosher parents I have to have alternatives to shrimp paste and fish flakes
I bought the first one I found on Amazon and its good but I see that there are like ten different regional variations and several micro varieties
So….who uses it and what kind/ where do you get it?

I have some but I don't use it. I didn't think it added much.

Not seen/used this particular product but Maggi make or market the majority of instant soups and 'cook in the bag' products we get here. I find them too salty for my taste.

I prefer using onions, garlic, herbs and spices to add flavor. My spouse, on the other hand, would probably love it. If he gets take out and finds the food lacking in flavor, out comes the bottle of soy sauce....

That product was pretty common in my youth. My wife’s family is Yugoslav and they put it on the table at every meal alongside the salt/pepper - so used as a table condiment.
I don’t remember my family ever using it, even for cooking.
I think the product took a hit during the rejection of foods with MSG in the ‘70s and ‘80s and never recovered. It would have been culinary suicide to admit using it during that period.

Looks like I am in a definite minority here, as we use it regularly to sprinkle on steamed or sauteed veggies. I'm in California, so I get what is in the markets here; it says Product of China, no other info about source. Yes, it is salty, but you don't have to use a lot, either.
