Was today's Midwest earthquake near any of our members?

Checking to see if the quake affected anybody here...are you all okay?

Good question Sue. Good to know you are ok Gin. I have znoozed my way through a couple tremors in my lifetime. My Mom tells me a really really big one hit the city where I was born when she was 8 1/2 months pregnant with me. She tells of how the ground was undulating like waves in the ocean, and the walls expanded and contracted. She says it took her a full minute to get to the door from the living room. Then some more time to open the door and then finally in the street, the earthquake was still going strong!! Apparently that was a loooong and powerful one. I say, I would hate to experience that, but apparently I did experience it. Just from a unique perpective. hehe.

Earthquakes are cool! I was in the last one that occured off Waikeloa Hawaii in 2006. Shook and swayed the chandeliers. That was even bigger than the two that preceeded it, but still closed the roads around the Big Island.

I was in the Sylmar quake in So. Ca. it moved an upright grand piano to the center of the room , broke the above ground pool , cracked walls not fun .. Gin

Cool? Sorry Ross but I'm gonna have to disagree on this one! Way too scary and dangerous to be considered cool to me

This earthquake was pretty small by California standards.
A 5.2 is not that big of a deal. I have experienced about 4 or 5 at 6.0+ and they get a bit exciting at that level. I agree, not fun at all.

That's what my wife (Dottie) said. She told me I was sick. Can you imagine?

The epicenter occurred about 17-20 miles from here, and we were awake when the first one hit. It was the longest one I've ever felt, I'd estimate 50-60 seconds and it thoroughly scared me.

Its been nice here and we had the windows open, when we heard a rumble off to the west, and thought it was a train. But as it got louder and closer, there was no train horn along with it. Then the house shook. We first thought it was a mine blast, we hear/feel them occasionally, but then it shook again stronger and was ramping up in intensity when we finally figured out what it was and jumped out of bed till it was over.

It knocked several of my orchids out of window sills and a few top-heavy ones off my coffee table, scattering potting mix everywhere. It skewed pictures on the walls, and scooted lightweight stuff on our tables, moved some glassware towards the front of cabinets as well.

Since we were just getting to bed at 4:40am when the first one hit, I was wide awake for hours feeling the little aftershocks. Then I decided they were calm enough I could sleep through it and settled down on the couch in the living room and not even 15 mins after I'd fallen asleep a 4.5 "aftershock" hit and woke me straight up. I was able to finally get some sleep this afternoon though.
