Although the leaves are very similar, and the yellow flowers look they could easily belong on that plant in my garden.

I see what you mean, which is also why I was questioning the ID! The Potentillas I have seen in Europe all have creeping growths, and nothing like yours. I'd love to figure out what it is though, I'm a huge plant nerd.

There is no way for you to know, but I'm born and raised in the US. I have now lived longer in Europe than in the US, so I guess I'm more 'international' now and don't really belong to any of the 3 countries I've lived in. But yeah, generally the word 'Texas' seems to be associated with 'big'!

It's also funny, that I travel to Brazil quite a lot. When I first started going there, I was living in Oklahoma, and people would ask me where I'm from, and I would say Oklahoma, and they would just stare at me with blank eyes.
Now when I go and people ask me where I'm from and I say, "Texas", they ALL know Texas hahaha. They know the Dallas Cowboys, they know our frontier tradition as part of the "wild west" and cattle rustlers and shootouts in saloons, and everything. On a few occasions, I have actually been asked, "It is true that you guys still ride horses instead of cars?" and they were not joking! They were serious hahahahahah. So yeah, people all over the world know Texas, and that everything is bigger here lol.

Well, Camille, you're the winner! A friend of mine has an app where you submit a picture of a plant and it will tell you what it is, and she used this app to determine that my plant is called creeping cinquefoil.
I'm still not convinced that it looks exactly the same, but it sure does look close enough for me to believe the app is correct. It looks like it gets nice little yellow flowers on it later in the year, so that's exciting! Thanks for all your help, and Camille, I owe you a chicken dinner

Good ID Camille! Possibly Potentilla Reptans? Although not native to America I think it's got to most places
