Great photo's, how warm was it in NYC. I have a few trout lillies in my garden. That little chipmunk better watch out, that red tail looks hungry!

Tim. The Hawk wasnt the only thing that was hungry, I saw two owlets and Momma or Pappa Owl watching over them. Bubo virginianus

Wow, you had the chance to watch a breeding couple of Bubo virginianus  great!!! Nesting on the ground or on a tree? some populations in Venezuela nest on the ground and others on the trees (Bubo bubo in europe does it almost only on the ground) |

Hi Tindo, Great photos! It reminded me of a documentary I watched about a pair of red-tailed hawks who flew around Central Park and each year nested on the balcony of some tall apartment bldg. facing the park. People came everyday and watched the progress of the nesting and waited patiently for the chicks to hatch. Those hawks had quite a following!
I'm not familiar with NYC, but the Flora of Queens is not near Central Park, right?  Seriously, I probably should know, but don't. |

I would say the two parks are 16 miles apart, by car.

It was near to 70 degrees F, 22 degrees C.

by the way, spp borealis is the (quite common) subespecies on the east coast of USA. Like all Buteos, a great bird! |
