Had my first shot on Monday, Astra Zeneca. Spent most of Tuesday in bed feeling dreadful, tired, ached all over, effort to get to bathroom, didn't eat a thing, lots of water to drink. Today, Wednesday, woke up feeling best I have for months! Have had a really good day with loads of energy!
Hubby, different age group, had Pfizer shot on Tuesday, no side effects as yet.
I get my second shot in 3 months - he gets his in 3 weeks!

I have worked as a nurse in a shots clinic three days this week. Past two we saw 300 and tomorrow there will be 1000, and that schedule will continue until June. We have 76.000 with 50 to 60,000 above the age of 16. So far they have given 20,000 injections.
Feels good to be volunteering as a nurse after retiring six yrs ago when I was 72. :rofl:

Just sayin'.... next time I get a shot for ANY reason, I'm hoping it will be a 78 year old nurse with LOTS of experience. :biggrin: Wish you'd been there when I was getting some of the shots I was given in early years!

One of the guys, probably 65+ that I was assessing a interviewing was freaked out. His wife told him no big deal and signed him up lol. We were slowing down inbetween rushes, and I had a minute to reassure him. He said remember when we were kids and had to get our first shot, I think it was polio the one that made a scab on our arm, I told him Smallpox, yah he said, remember how scared we were...I told him the second time I smelled rubbing alcohol, I almost fainted, he laughted and said 10 yrs later I was in nursing school and doing more strange things than give shots. He relaxed some and got in line for the shot. I checked out the syrenges and needles and they were small and tiny needle, so when I got mine, I did not even feel it in Feb. first shot I had to give was salt water to my roommate, I stuck her and pulled it back out and had to stick her twice. Later a couple of months, I gave my first one to a very sick old man, and the next day he died. I thought for a few months I had killed him...:rofl:
glad I am 79 instead of 17 again and a student. I have seen my share of everything. And I miss it...so volunteering helps.

That's definitely a plus, on the other hand, consider the young nurse who gave me my first dose.. "hellloooooo nurse!" :biggrin:

Down boy. Your story sounds similar to my husband's favorite shot in military... the peanut butter shot. Oh, nurse, could you rub that a little more please? :rofl:

What's a peanut butter shot? Asking for a friend.

A shot of bicillan (penicillin) of a very thick consistency, delivered into the butt cheek with a large bore needle. The nurse then rubs the spot where injected until the large blob is slowly absorbed. Some pass out when receiving the shot. It's very painful.

PS Each time he received it except once, he was fortunate to have a young female nurse such as yours was to inject it.

Hah! My Dad told me that when men were inducted into the military (way back when), any that were uncircumcised were required to have the procedure done. “Oh nurse. Can you change my bandage?”

Shifting gear ever so slightly...

I was the “lucky” recipient of metastatic malignant melanoma (not sun related) a while back, and had 3 surgeries to remove it all. Once a month for a year, then every 6 months for 5, I had to get totally naked for my oncologists to inspect every mole on my entire body. Of course, both of them were in their 30’s and looked like models.

At my last visit, I said, “C’mon now. It’s only fair... Your turn.”
