I cannot abide someone else picking out my cooking ingredients. Packaged stuff, sure, but meats and vegetables I prefer to select for myself.

WW- I watch Curb Your Enthusiasm and if it is ones type of humor, you will love it
They joke about “i was social distancing before that was a thing!” I often prefer the coconuts compound to the rest of the world but I agree, I have a really tough time with curbside when I want first hand selection. My lumber yard is all outside and they ignore the customer so I’m basically alone lol. Fruit and veggies have been really really tough. |
For produce I have been greatly aided by the Japanese grocery store nearby... the clientele is mostly Asian, people who have never had a problem wearing a mask, from cultures where caring about other people is a given... and they also have a security guard to help enforce with the very rare yahoo (the task isn't thrown to cashiers and stock clerks) and the instances of people like that has diminished to essentially zero. It's the one store where I haven't felt like I was taking my life in my hands to restock the larder. Unfortunately they don't have everything that I need, so I have had to steel myself to occasionally go to other establishments but it's nice when I just need a head of lettuce or bunch of bananas (though I inevitably go out with other goodies too).

Hubs & I got 2nd Moderna shot a month ago. No side effects whatsoever. We are in late 60's with no underlying conditions.
Per doc recommendation: We hydrated WELL before both shots . . . like the day before and the day of. Also exercised shot arm excessively for a few hours after the shot. |

Same with vegetables... frozen, sure. Fresh? Never. Actually, I've asked twice for avocados on a pick-up list. Ain't happening again. Fortunately, a lot of our veggies come from our garden in summer and freezer in winter. Lettuce, I get romaine that's already bagged or a spring mix that comes in a big plastic box now. We feed our chickens a half-head of iceberg or cabbage every other day... I'm fine with the store folks picking out their veggies. |

BTW, my wife is getting the Pfizer vaccine this coming Tuesday, I'm getting Moderna on Thursday. Not based on preference, just what we could get, when we could get. |
On Monday, my daughter in Charlotte felt bad, and was tested positive for COVID-19, she guesses acquired from a coworker while at an outdoor luncheon meeting. She received the results literally a day before she became eligible for vaccination in NC.
We were very worried, as she is taking drugs that suppress her immune system, but fortunately, other than flu-like symptoms, she has experienced nothing, and in a phone call moments ago, she has recovered, except for nasal congestion. Upon hearing of her illness, I did the responsible parent thing and had a case of Prosecco shipped to her. The state health department contacted her right away, and a social worker contacts her daily to see how she's doing and if she needs anything. That's pretty amazing for as backwards a state as NC is. |
Well, I am no longer looking forward to the second dose in April. :nailbite:
This first one was pretty rough, yesterday the body aches and chills turned seriously gnarly. Back to normal today. My covid infection in December was far more benign than this hah. Lucky those of you with mild immune response! One more thing: those of you concerned about someone picking out your produce, etc, just give it a try a couple times, you might be surprised. I've had mostly good luck with it over the past year. My inner lazy bum hopes the delivery or curbside pickup continues post pandemic  |
Ray, I'm glad your daughter is doing okay now. kvet, sorry to hear about your side effects. :(
My husband got his second (Pfizer) yesterday morning. So far, only a sore arm, which he said is a little worse than the first shot. That's similar to my experience when I had both of mine (Moderna) a while back. We've been doing curbside pickup of groceries for a year now. In that time, there were maybe three or four times I was inside the store, usually because I was picking up a prescription and the store didn't have curbside pickup for those. I do not like someone else picking out my groceries for me, especially meat and produce. Doing my own grocery shopping is one of the biggest things I miss. I actually did my own shopping once after I had both my shots, double-masked and with protective eyewear, and I was thinking maybe I would start doing that once in a while, but now the state I live in currently has the biggest uptick in case numbers, percentage-wise, in the whole country. Argh! I'm so tired of this. :(( (As I know we all are.) Being an introvert, the social distancing aspect doesn't bother me, but I do miss the in-person orchid club meetings, since I have a few I'd like to donate to the raffle table. ;) |
