Please don't be offended by my response, but other than to needlessly insult our French (and, to a lesser extent, German) friends and fellow orchidboard members, I'm not sure what this jingoistic posting was meant to accomplish. I would imagine that there are any number of non-Americans out there (including, as difficult as this may be for some of my fellow countrymen to fathom, residents of France) who could provide equally apocryphal and tear-inducing stories confirming the supposed superiority of their own country and culture (usually done, not surprisingly, at the expense of someone else's). It seems hardly in the spirit of this website for someone (let alone a designated moderator) to advance comments and views that seem more inspired by Fox News than an interest in promoting an all-inclusive, worldwide orchid-growing body of hobbyists.

I will admit when I make mistakes. My deepest apalogies. I did not forsee such a reaction. I didnt realize it would offend people from other nations, only that it would help us feel proud of ours.

I'm French, and I don't mind. I find them funny!!! I take it for what it is: jokes. For me it's funny because I can see a little bit of typical frenchness in them.(and FYI, we only have 1 aircraft carrier, not nearly as good!) We always joke about the Belge, and they take it quite good naturedly.
And yes, we also have our fair share of "Americans are stupid' jokes. There was also a funny article in Newsweek last year along those lines.

Even if I love USA (really enjoyed my time living in California) and appreciate the good things of this country (without neglecting the bad ones and same as I do with Spain, Venezuela, Germany, France and Switzerland, to mentioned the countries I have lived in, or all the countries I have visited due to business or academical reasons) I would be a bit more precautious with some comments in front of other people, especially if those comments put them in a bad position...
just my two cents ...

Quite right. As I said before, something I had not considered, and given my position here at OB, I cannot nor do I wish to defend my posting. Thanks for being understanding.
