ways of enjoying sugar cane
So I have a nice break of purple ribbon sugar cane in my side yard....i planted it as a privacy plant and because growing up we used to call it solid Gatorade and would cut down a cane and split it among 10-12 neighborhood kids after a baseball game, peel it with a knife and chew on it....the stuff of life!! instant pick me up
i found out a neighbor down the street used to have a juice stand and had a cane juicer in his garage?!!! what are the odds...i had awesome access to the best cane juice for 4 years....i dragged three canes to his house last week and he laughed and said i should have called bc he sold the machine. I was horrified and i asked how much he sold it for thinking i would have been a player on it when his answer was a four figure number i realized i was NOT a player and dragged my canes home.
SOOOO, aside from chewing on it...does anyone know any other way to enjoy sugar cane??
sad coconuts, out

For the members - Cut mature pieces of sugar cane into 2-node sections. Stick them upright into a pot, so the bottom node is coverered. Keep hot and moist. They will root and grow. Or lay the cuttings sideways, halfway into the soil.
Rum is brewed from molasses. The Brazilian spirit cachaça is brewed from fresh sugar cane juice. Yum.

Home brewing is allowed. Home distilling is frowned upon
Super easy to grow and it gets 10-15’ tall
I’ll happily include cuttings in any plant exchange boxes...you all know who you are
So it’s basically chew or juice as far as I have found. Bummer. Jupiña, the cane juice is so amazing and flavorful and really really surprisingly an incredible glycemic index food
Sugar ain’t bad...processing is bad
Sorry, my inner hippy was showing

Maybe check craigslist, watch fleabay, or check local restaurant auctions for a chance at a juicer?
I have a "champion juicer" that I use in making chocolate, got it off CL for like $50. I was curious and appears it might be able to juice sugar cane, you'll just have to do some prep work: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions...k_ql_ql_al_hza
There are manual juicers for half the price of the commercial ones, and I think they come up for sale on occasion for a lot less if you watch the various for-sale sites.
Also appears you might be able to blend small pieces.
Or.. if you like to cook, there are ways to use them like as skewers, or ground meat wraps, etc.

In my many travels to Brazil, I have consumed quite a lot of Cachaça, and I enthusiastically recommend it. I am not crazy about the sugar cane juice they drink. You can get it from any street vendor. To me, it just tastes sweet, with an underlying flavor of green plants. It's like drinking sweetened grass to me, but I'm one of the few people in Brazil who don't absolutely love it. But but get you a juicer of some kind and see if that works.

It seems the masticating juicers can do it but you have to cut it up a bit.
Cool ideas all
J- Cachaca is amazing. Caipirinhas crush mojitos and I still love me a monitor

This is a pilão. It's used to crush cut limes with sugar in the bottom of a glass, then crack ice cubes, to make a caipirinha. It's my favorite of the things I brought back from Brasíl. I couldn't find the seeds of the tiny hot peppers from Bahía or those probably would have been my favorites.

I always bring back a few bottles of Cachaca with me every summer when I go there. Of course I also enjoy a lot of caipirinhas while I'm there.
